This is what I have learned in my sixteen years of residence in the United States: if you want to accomplish something here, as a woman, there is nothing that holds you back. After coming of age in a country deeply damaged by one of the most oppressive brands of communism, I can appreciate the kind of life made possible by freedom and by the huge progress in the respect for human rights. My only hope is that all my sisters who experience endless pain and abuse will learn one day what it means to breathe freely, knowing no fear and no obstacles to the fulfillment of their dreams.
