“I am a Southern belle stuck in the Midwest” is what I say when I like to joke about how I ended up in a small town in the middle of Missouri. I was born and raised in the very heel of the boot, Lake Charles, LA, which is 45 minutes from the Texas border. Although my struggles aren’t what some would consider tragic, I don’t think people should be allowed to differentiate what makes life hard for one another. We are all different and that is what makes the world go round. I am grateful every day for the family I have. Some might consider me another typical American but I know the sacrifices my parents made and how hard they have worked to give me the life I have. I intend to make them proud by receiving a college education and pursuing my strengths. My favorite quote is by E.E. Cummings and helped me realize there is a whole other world outside of my hometown, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” I love the fact that Westminster is a wide variety of cultures on such a small campus and by choosing to come here I have experienced and met incredible people who have changed my life for the better and I never would have had I not left my comfort zone.
